While neither team has been particularly impressive this year, the college football week 15 odds opened with Navy as a seven point favorite. Since this is one of the only football games on this Saturday it should receive plenty of action. Currently the public is betting on Navy at about a 78% clip, which is no surprise since they are the favorite.
This game is always big as the two academies are die-hard rivalries, but this game will get a elevated status. Both teams are not bowl eligible, and that means this is the final game of the year for both teams. In the recent past, this series has been dominated by the Midhshipmen. They have won nine straight in the series, to include a 14 point victory last year. If Army intends to break the streak they will need a healthy quarterback Trent Steelman in the lineup.
Steelman is the main man in the Army offensive attack. He has over 500 yards and double digit touchdown numbers on the season. If he is unable to go, Army will have to lean on a freshman and that could be tough on such a big stage. Of course Army’s game plan is simple; run the ball.
Navy has a similar game plan as they too run an offense powered by the running game. Navy averages over 310 yards a game and that is good for fourth in college football, with Army taking the top spot at over 350 yards on the ground per game.
Under center for Navy is senior Kriss Proctor who will play his last game as a Midshipman. He knows this offense and is very efficient at running the scheme. Proctor missed last year’s meeting and it was Steelman who stole the show, but that did not equate to a victory.
The sports betting trends in this game are in favor of the Black Knights in this contest. The Midshipmen are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a loss, 3-7 ATS against a team with a losing record, and 1-4 ATS in their last five games as a favorite.
Navy is disappointed that they missed a bowl game for the first time in eight years and will be sluggish out the gate. Steelman has had some success against Navy in the past and will be ready to try and pull the upset in this classic matchup.
