The Heisman Odds were released at by Bet Online and the money started flowing in. BetOnline named Alabama running back Trent Richardson the -170 favorite. That quickly changed as money started pouring in on RG3 at +300. Within a couple hours after opening the odds, RG3 was the new favorite at BetOnline.
Despite the constant odds changes, bettors kept pounding RG3. Less than a week later and RG3 is the massive -2000 favorite. Now let’s take a closer look at each finalist.
Tyrann Mathieu was a late addition due to his outstanding play over the last two weeks against some of the top teams in the country. Punt returns against Arkansas and Georgia in the SEC Championship led to big runs that won the game.
The “Honey Badger” is a novelty pick and at these odds he is the biggest longshot to win the award.
Montee Ball is an underrated running back in college football and no doubt about it, he deserves a spot on this panel, but he is not going to win. He has better numbers than some of the other running backs on the list, but he will not get enough support to win the trophy. A bet on Ball is like throwing money away.
At the start of the year Andrew Luck was a slam dunk to win the Heisman Trophy, but now those odds have changed dramatically. He is at 5 to 1 odds and is a dark horse to win the Trophy. Luck has not had a spectacular campaign and is lacking a “Heisman moment” that will put him in the running. It is tough to rule out Andrew Luck, but there will be a better chance that he will be the first No. 1 pick in the draft then win this award.
Trent Richardson was the favourite to win the Heisman until the last few weeks of the college football season. Richardson is one of the best running backs in the league and when the Crimson Tide lost to LSU, he was still a shining star. If you are looking to take a shot at a player with dog money to win this award, Richardson is that player.
Robert Griffin III is hands-down the favourite to win the Heisman Trophy. RG3 put the Baylor Bears on the map and his stock has been rising.. He has several Heisman moments to include a last minute win over Oklahoma that may be the signature moment that propelled him to the top of the charts. The odds are ugly, but the fact remains that RG3 should be awarded the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night.
