The New England Patriots head out on the road against a non conference opponent when they tale on the Washington Redskins in week 14. While it is obvious that the Patriots are the better team, you have to wonder if this is a soft spot in their schedule.

The NFL odds for week 14 opened up as the Patriots laying 8 points to the Redskins and that quickly took off. Over 90% of the public are backing the Patriots in this game and the number has now settled at nine points.

The Patriots have a habit of playing down against weaker opponents, as evident by the play against winless Colts a week ago. The Patriots defense is also a big problem this year as they rank among the worst in the NFL, especially against the pass. If Tom Brady and the offense can get a lead, it is never safe with this defense.

The Jets defeated the Redskins a week ago, but the final score was a bit misleading as the Jets piled on late. The Redskins played even with the Jets for three quarters and if not for a quarterback Rex Grossman turnover, the Skins may have won. This week the results will be different because the Patriots defense is not as good as the Jets.

The Redskins will have to play without tight end Fred Davis, but Santana Moss is ready to step it up in this game with Davis out of the lineup.  Moss is eager to get back in the lineup and start showing his worth.

“I’m going to be building every day on being more polished in everything I do. … One thing about this game, is you can miss one game and not be as sharp as you were before,” Moss said. “So missing four, I’m going to have to pay attention to detail a little more. And make sure everything I do, I know how to do it.”

That kind of attitude is what will get the Redskins offense motivated to play hard in this game. It has gone unnoticed, but the Redskins defense is playing very good defensive football and they are putting the pressure on the quarterback.

Picking the Redskins to beat the Patriots may be a stretch, but taking the points is the way to go.
