When the season first started the Cincinnati Bengals were considered a rebuilding project. They let go of two flashy wide receivers and their franchise quarterback Carson Palmer chose to retire instead of playing for the team. Now 17 weeks later, the Bengals are playing against the Baltimore Ravens for a chance to be in the NFL playoffs.
The NFL week 17 odds opened up with the Ravens as three point favorites, but that number has
since been bet down to two points in most online sportsbooks. That move was triggered by smart money has over 59 percent of the betting public is on the Ravens.
The Ravens also have something to play for in this game, but will still go to the playoffs regardless of the outcome. The Ravens are powered by running back Ray Rice who is one of the best running backs in the league. When he does well, the Ravens do well. That could be a problem against the Bengals.
The Bengals are one of the top defensive units against the run. They also have two of the youngest superstars on offense. Andy Dalton under center has made the Bengal fans forget about Palmer, and rookie wide out AJ Green is the second coming of Randy Moss. This tandem has proven to be unstoppable and is just one of the reasons that the Bengals have a shot at the playoffs.
Dalton had three picks in the first game against the Ravens but he still managed 374 yards through the air. The Bengals are 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 games as an underdog and 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 games as an underdog of 0.5-3.0. The Ravens have had a bad habit of falling down in games they should win this year and they are a one dimensional offensive team.
The Ravens can’t get it done and they get bit by a divisional home underdog in week 17.
