The SEC Championship odds have yet to be released, but early reports from Vegas have the LSU Tigers favored by 13 points in this game.
For the LSU Tigers this game was inevitable as they have dominated the SEC all season long. With a dominating defense and a “Mad hatter” for a head coach in Les Miles, the Tigers control their own destiny. The path to the National title goes through Georgia and although the Tigers may still get to the big game with a loss, the SEC Championship is very important to the Tigers.
For the Bulldogs, it was a surprising path to the SEC Championship game. Florida and South Carolina were the favorites to win the SEC East, and Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt was on the hot seat. Fast forward to the end of the season and the Bulldogs are one of the hottest teams in the country and are very capable of winning the SEC.
Quarterback Aaron Murray is in the middle of an incredible year for the Bulldogs and recently passed for four touchdowns against Georgia Tech in his last outing. He will be tested against a tough LSU defense, but a look at the SEC stats shows that the Bulldogs have an impressive defense this year as well.
Georgia is third in scoring defense, one spot behind LSU and No. 4 in overall defense. In fact a quick scan of all defensive categories in the SEC shows that the Bulldogs are not far behind the Tigers in nearly every category.
On offense Georgia has a better passing offense and is just behind LSU in rushing offense. If Georgia has any weakness it’s the schedule that they have played this year, but that will not matter if they defeat LSU for the SEC title.
This will be the third time Georgia and LSU have matched up for the SEC championship. Georgia has played well in the past against the Tigers but this is a different team. Star freshman Isaiah Crowell should be back in this game after recovering from an injured ankle. This would be another excellent addition the Georgia team heading into this game.
The sports betting trends show that Georgia deserves a look in this game. The Bulldogs are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games overall, 4-1 ATS against a team with a winning record and 4-1 ATS in the last five games after a straight up win.
Because of the easy win against Arkansas this line will be inflated and the public backing on Arkansas will be evident, but the Bulldogs have the talent to keep this game close and even win the SEC.
